چکیده

We present numerical testing results of our mass function derived in our previous paper, and compare the testing results with those of the popular Press-Schechter (PS) mass function. Two fiducial models are considered for the test: the scale-free power-law spectra P (k) ∝ k with spectral indices n = −1, 0 and the standard cold dark matter (SCDM) model with Ω = 1 and h = 0.5. For the power-law models, we use numerical data averaged over several different output times: ten output times from two N-body realizations for the n = −1 power-law model; four outputs from one realization for the n = 0 model. While for the SCDM model, we consider four outputs separately at redshifts z = 0, 0.43, 1.14 and 1.86 from one large N-body simulations. The comparison results show that our mass function fits the numerical data in a much improved way over the PS one. Thus, we expect that our mass function can be a viable alternative of the PS mass function in applications to various areas. Subject headings: cosmology: theory — large-scale structure of universe

A Comparison of Underground Opening Support Design Methods in Jointed Rock Mass (TECHNICAL NOTE)

It is of great importance to consider long-term stability of rock mass around the openings of underground structure, during design, construction and operation of the said structures in rock. In this context, three methods namely, empirical, analytical and numerical have been applied to design and analyze the stability of underground infrastructure at the Siah Bisheh Pumping Storage Hydro-Electr...

Simulations of transport in one dimension

Advection-dispersion equation is solved in numerically by using combinations of differential quadrature method (DQM) and various time integration techniques covering some explicit or implicit single and multi step methods. Two different initial boundary value problems modeling conservative and nonconservative transports of some substance represented by initial data are chosen as test problems. ...

Hydraulic fracture propagation: analytical solutions versus Lattice simulations

In this work, we used a grain-based numerical model based on the concept of lattice. The modelling was done to simulate the lab experiments carried out on the mortar samples. Also the analytical solutions corresponding to the viscosity-dominated regime were used to estimate the fracture length and width, and the results obtained were compared with the numerical simulations. As the analytical so...

Mass functions and bias of dark matter halos

Aims. We revisit the study of the mass functions and the bias of dark matter halos. Methods. Focusing on the limit of rare massive halos, we point out that exact analytical results can be obtained for the large-mass tail of the halo mass function. This is most easily seen from a steepest-descent approach, that becomes asymptotically exact for rare events. We also revisit the traditional derivat...
